Lesson 2

Moving from Milk to Meat

For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. - Hebrews 5:12-14

Section 1 - Milk or Meat?

Read the opening statement carefully, then complete the activities below.

"Comfort is the curse of a compromised gospel, because true change only comes by confrontation."

In your own words, what does this mean for how you approach this course?

Your Response

Fill in the Blanks

The word righteousness in Hebrews 5:12 means equity of , not just a legal standing before God.

The sign of spiritual maturity is NOT how many scriptures you quote. It is determined by your level of .

People in church for thirty years who are still spiritual babies are what Paul calls in the word of righteousness.

They are not ignorant of the Word, but in applying it to themselves.

The mature are those who, by reason of constant , have allowed the Word to so work in them that even their senses have changed.

The moment you stop allowing the Word to have authority over your life is the exact moment you stop .

Reflection

Paul says the mature have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil (Heb. 5:14). What does it mean for your spiritual senses to be exercised? What would it look like if they were not?

Your Answer

Section 2 - The Nature of Self-Deception

Building on Lesson 1, this section explains why we cannot expose our own self-deception - and what God uses to do it.

Fill in the Blanks

Self-deception is rarely exposed by the one who is .

The purpose of discipleship is to that self-deception.

When we start getting exposed, our natural response - like Adam - is to want to .

God is saying: Run to Me in the . Let the exposure happen so transformation can occur.

In true discipleship, the response of a disciple is: God, You're right. I'm sorry. me.

The Three Essential Attitudes

Without these three attitudes, you will excuse, deflect, attack the messenger, or quit. With them, there is no limit to how far God can take you.

# Attitude Key Scripture
1 Apply yourself to understanding Proverbs 2:1-5
2 Be willing to be corrected Proverbs 23:13
3 Determine to endure the pain of discipleship Hebrews 12:5-6

In your experience, what is the most common way people deflect or avoid confrontation from the Word?

Your Thoughts

Section 3 - Attitude One: Apply Yourself to Understanding

My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. - Proverbs 2:1-5

Fill in the Blanks

The measure you apply to understanding is the measure you .

The natural mind cannot understand the things of God. What is required is understanding.

Paul prayed for a spirit of wisdom and even for the most spiritually advanced believers. (Eph. 1:17-18)

When revelation knowledge comes, the of God comes - and it draws you closer to Him, not away.

Until healing was revealed to the author, he could not it.

The difference is not God's willingness. The difference is .

Information vs. Revelation

Information Only Revelation Knowledge
Stays in the head Changes what you desire and pursue
Does not produce the fear of God The fear of God comes - pulling you closer to Him
You agree with truth but do not live it What God provided becomes personally accessible
Produces pride (puffed up) Produces humility, hunger, and genuine change

Describe a time when you moved from information to revelation on a biblical truth. What changed when it became real to you?

My Story

Section 4 - Attitude Two: Be Willing to Be Corrected

Fill in the Blanks

God commands those in leadership over us not to correction.

The longer someone stays in the church and moves in the supernatural, the more correction becomes - and the more necessary.

If your discipler is doing their job, there will be .

If you are not willing to be corrected, you simply cannot .

The Story of Morris Cerullo

Read the account of the author's encounter with Morris Cerullo in 1990 carefully.

What correction did Cerullo give, and what was the author's first reaction?

The Correction

What did the author do five minutes later, and what resulted from that choice?

The Result

"The willingness to be corrected, even when it hurts, even when the flesh rises, is the door to God's power and promotion."

Describe a time when you received correction that opened a door - or a time you refused correction and lost something. Be honest.

Personal Reflection

Section 5 - Attitude Three: Endure the Pain of Discipleship

My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives. - Hebrews 12:5-6

Fill in the Blanks

The Bible never promises that correction will be .

The word chastens means to discipline by .

God's correction is sometimes deeply uncomfortable, but its purpose is never .

It is always - to move you from where you are to where He wants you to be.

Make a predetermined choice right now: I will endure the pain of discipleship because I want the .

Describe a time when the Word of God or a season of correction was painful. What was God trying to produce in you through it?

My Story

What area of your life right now is God asking you to endure a season of confrontation or correction?
